Emergency responders said they found heavy smoke pouring from the windows of the single-family Subden Street home when they arrived just before 6:30 p.m.
Police pushed their way in and snatched up the dog.
Officer John Galarza and firefighters conducted CPR, which brought the pooch around. After being equipped with a pet oxygen mask, the dog was returned to the homeowner.
The fire caused extensive damage to the roof, rendering the house uninhabitable, authorities said.
No other injuries were reported.
Dumont, New Milford and Tenafly firefighters assisted.
Sugden Street remained closed Sunday night while the cause of the fire was investigated.
