“With a new police chief comes new ideas,” Capt. Mustafa Rabboh said, referring to Police Chief Cathy Madalone, the first female police commander in Bergen County history.

Members of the department aim to connect the community in times of crisis and with comprehensive communications strategies, no matter what religion an individual practices. Faith-based leaders will help supporting emotional, social or spiritual needs, while officers manage their law enforcement tasks.

Semi-annual meetings with the clergy begin Nov. 17 at Borough Hall.

Imam Muhammad Tahir and the Rev. Verardo Acosta were the first to take the two-day course along with Rabboh.

“They were taught on what police see on a day-to-day basis," Rabboh said. "They have to encompass all religions as a moral support."
