Bergenfield Pedestrian Hospitalized In Hit-Run Crash, Driver Sought

BERGENFIELD, N.J. – Authorities asked the public’s help finding a small- to mid-size, dark colored passenger vehicle with possible damage to the front and driver’s side of the vehicle, caused when it struck a 66-year-old pedestrian Wednesday night in Bergenfield.

Elizabeth Velez, 66, was expected to recover from serious internal injuries, as Daily Voice reported Wednesday night, authorities said Thursday.

Velez was struck by the northbound vehicle near the intersection of South Prospect Avenue and West Broad Street at 7:13 p.m., Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal said.

“It appears that the vehicle stopped briefly then left the scene continuing northbound,

[on South Prospect],” Grewal said.

Velez was taken to the trauma unit of Hackensack University Medical Center by the Bergenfield Volunteer Ambulance squad with paramedics from Holy Name Medical Center, responders told Daily Voice.
