BERGENFIELD, N.J. -- Bergenfield firefighters kept a smoking hoverboard from igniting after being called by a resident.

No injuries were reported in the Sunday night incident on West Central Avenue, authorities said.

Firefighters reminded consumers to make sure hoverboards are turned off when not in use.

They also urge them to "please be aware of the problems" caused by the bow-shaped devices, which are something of a cross between a skateboard and a Segway.

Authorities in Lacey Township said a hoverboard there burst into flames over the weekend.

The federal Consumer Product Safety Commission said it was reviewing simlar incidents nationwide.
