Jo-Ann Hans, 60, of Bergenfield was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center after being struck around 8 a.m. outside Congregation Beth Abraham at New Bridge Road and Thames Boulevard, Police Chief Cathy Madalone said.

"Officers were on scene and rendered aid immediately," Madalone said.

The Bergenfield Volunteer Ambulance Corp and paramedics responded, the chief said. Police issued three summonses to the driver, identified as 63-year-old Pawothil Abraham -- for careless driving, failure to obey crossing guard and failure to stop to allow pedestrians to cross.
