There will also be a 50/50 raffle at the "cook off" fundraiser for Lt. Brian Long, from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the New Milford Elks Lodge on Patrolman Ray Woods Lane.

Tickets: $20

All proceeds go to the Brian Long Fund, which over the past 22 months has raised nearly $80,000 to help defray the family's medical costs.

Originally from Bergenfield, the highly-respected father of three worked for the NYPD before transferring to New Milford in 1994.

“Brian is an awesome person, officer and father,” Bogota Sgt. Geoffrey Cole told CLIFFVIEW PILOT. “He would do anything for anyone.”

The fund was established to help Long and his family meet expenses not covered by insurance, as well as other costs.

These include frequent bio-therapy treatments for the uncommon, aggressive cancer at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

Fellow New Milford Officer Robert Jones, who set up the GoFundMe page for the Longs, said that people can "help make this horrible time a little easier for Brian and his family.”

“Just knowing that some of his bills will be taken care of will relieve at least some stress and give him more strength to fight this disease,” he said.
