Victor J. Garcia, who turns 66 on Monday, was charged this morning with illegally possessing five assault rifles and an ammunition magazine.

Bergenfield police went to Garcia’s home late Monday and found the weapons, along with several pieces of ordnance described as “novelty” items, including World War II-era bombs.

Bergenfield police, the county Bomb Squad and sheriff’s officers seized several assault rifles, along with several pieces of what appear to be novelty items that look like explosives.

Bergenfield police called in the bomb squad from the Bergen County Police Department and experts from the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office after going to the West Clinton Avenue home.

Some of the items seized include World War II-era pineapple-styled grenades, a law enforcement official told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Bergenfield police have the firearms. They said they intend to release more detailed information this afternoon.
