"Bill was a vibrant member of the community in Dumont," information from the funeral home noted. He was an active member of St. Mary's Church as a Eucharistic minister; volunteer at the annual carnival, the Lions Club and Democratic Club; umpire for Dumont minor league baseball; and founder of the Good Neighbor Fund.
Pizzute served with the National Guard U.S. Army installation at Camp Shanks, Orangeburg. He retired from Aetna as a brokerage supervisor in 1993. He retired from part-time employment as the Dumont Borough tax collector and Dumont Board of Education in March 1999, after 25 years of service.
"Bill will be remembered by many as the daily jogger that ran through the streets of Dumont," the funeral home added.
He is survived by his children, Linda Pizzute, Bill Pizzute and his wife Mary, Thomas Pizzute and his wife Patricia, Patricia Pizzute-Appel, Margaret Pizzute, Elaine Pizzute-Ashare; grandchildren Vanessa, Sara, Stephanie, Alyssa, Jamie, Zachary and Trevor; and great-grandchildren Weston, Vance, Alexandra, Isla and Christopher.
Pizzute was predeceased by his wife, Elaine O’Brien.
Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 23, and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.on Tuesday at the Frech-McKnight Funeral Home, 161 Washington Ave., in Dumont. A mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Mary's, in Dumont. Burial will follow, at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
