William J. Heina, 89, Formerly of New Milford

NEW MILFORD, N.J. -- William J. Heina, 89, of Fairfield, died Oct. 14. 

He was born in Fort Lee, and was a former 50-year resident of New Milford. 

He attended Fort Lee High School, where he graduated as a top basketball star. He also had a great passion for golf, fishing and bowling. He loved to create things and his talent was present in everything he did. 

Heina was the owner of an upholstery business, W.J. Heina and Son Inc. in New York City, where his expertise, reputation and creativity led him to be the most sought after company in his field, working for top decorators and an elite group of clients. He took great pride that he designed and built his own home, where he and his wife raised their six children. 

He was predeceased by his wife, Ann; and sisters, Rita Cushnie and Connie Mitchell. 

He is survived by his children, William and his wife Beth, Meg Balter and her husband David, Robert, Susan Giannotta and her husband Angelo, Janice Deevy and her husband Mark and Kenneth and his wife Bonny; and grandchildren, Christopher and his wife Jody, Evan, Brett, Julia, Miranda, Mikayla and Rebecca. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's R.C. Church, 300 Elm St., Oradell. Interment will follow at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah. Visiting will be from 1-5 p.m. Sunday at the William G. Basralian Funeral Home, 559 Kinderkamack Road, Oradell. 

The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations made to The Lupus Foundation or the M.S. Society.
