Maurice Fleming, 89, Of Bergenfield

BERGENFIELD, N.J. — Maurice Fleming, 89, of Bergenfield, died Thursday, Oct. 20.

He was born in Limerick, Ireland and emigrated to the United States in 1952.

Fleming worked for more than 30 years in research and development for Best Foods and Unilever, among others. He loved to garden and was very proud of the tomatoes and flowers he grew each year. He also loved to sing and dance at all occasions. He had a very good sense of humor, which was appreciated during large family gatherings. He was very handy and never hired anyone to do any work around the house. He did everything himself — electrical, construction, plumbing etc. When anyone needed anything done around their house, business or just advice, he was always ready and willing to lend a hand.

He was predeceased by his wife, Nellie (nee) Flanagan; and his brothers and sisters; Jim, Tom, Mary and Nora.

He is survived by his children, Margaret Keane and her husband Jim, Patricia Murphy and her husband John, Maurice Fleming, Brendan Fleming and Helen Fleming; and grandchildren, Maura Keane, Danielle Carazo, John Murphy, Maurice Fleming, Mark Carazo, Danny Murphy, Connor Murphy and Suzie Fleming.

There will be a funeral service at 9 a.m. Monday at the Volk Leber Funeral Home, 268 Kinderkamack Road, Oradell then to St. John’s RC Church, Bergenfield for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Mausoleum. Family and friends are invited to visit from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
