Mae Kavanagh, 71, Dumont Resident

BERGENFIELD, N.J. – Mae (Kennedy) Kavanagh, of Dumont, died Monday, March 28. She was 71.

She was born in Tubrid, County Kilkenny, Ireland, to Ellen (Kealy) and John Kennedy and immigrated to the U.S. in 1962, settling in the Bronx, prior to relocating to Dumont. 

She was employed as a childcare professional for morethan 40 years at ECCS Child Care of Norwood, N.J.

She was the mother of Eleanor M. Clary and her husband, Tony, Richard J. Kavanagh, Jr., Yvonne Kavanagh, Joan Mernick and her husband, John, and David Kavanagh and his wife, Chrissy; grandmother of Jessica, John Jr., Jack, Conor and Myla; and sister of Paddy Kennedy, Kay Kennedy-Murphy, Joan Nissen, Lil Kellighan and Eileen Norton.

Visitation will take place Friday,, April 1, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Frech-McKnight Funeral Home, 161 Washington Ave., Dumont. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Haworth. Interment will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Tenafly.
