John T. Walters, 95, Of Dumont

DUMONT, N.J. -- John T. Walters, of Dumont, died on Wednesday, Dec. 28. He was 95.

John was born to Elizabeth (nee Rooney) and John Walters. He was a proud WWII Veteran and was employed as a stage carpenter with the International Association of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) Local #1, New York City. He received a Tony Award for Chief Carpenter of “The Miracle Worker” and was the First Master Carpenter at the NY State Theater at Lincoln Center. He was a devoted parishioner and Altar server at St. Mary’s Church.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth “Betty”; children, John and his wife Kate, James and his wife Diane, Mickey, Daniel, Kathleen, Steven, Andrew and his wife Karen, Joanne, the late Michael and his wife the late Beverly, Mark and his wife Barbara, Matthew and his wife Maureen and Scott and his wife Jackie; sisters, Celie and Gertrude; 15 cherished grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Frech-McKnight Funeral Home, 161 Washington Ave., Dumont. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Dumont. Interment to follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.
