DUMONT, N.J. -- John G. Kerner, 93, of Dumont, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family Friday, May 27, 2016.
He was the husband of Madelyn (nee Bohn); father of Patricia, Theresa, Michael, Joanne and Peter; grandfather of Amy, Kristen, James, Elizabeth, David, Richard, Melanie and Eric; and great-grandfather of Fiona and Ella.
He was predeceased by his brother Alfred Kerner.
Kerner was born Oct. 3, 1922 in Englewood, to Johanna (nee Lyne) and Alfred Kerner.
He was a mail carrier for the Englewood Post Office for many years and a World War II Army veteran. He was a faithful parishioner of St. Mary’s Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Among many of his interests after retirement were swimming, fishing and square dancing. He had a love for the beach and ocean, and spending summer vacations with his family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Dumont. Interment to follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Tenafly.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Frech-McKnight Funeral Home, 161 Washington Ave., Dumont.
