Herbert Langer, 94, Of Bergenfield

BERGENFIELD, N.J. – Herbert Langer, 94, of Bergenfield, died Wednesday, Nov. 4.

He was a graduate of CCNY and studied geology at the University of Minnesota until World War II broke out. He then joined the U.S. Navy and was assigned classified work as a cartographer at the Pentagon, where he met his future wife, Olga. 

For 35 years, he and Olga owned and operated two businesses in Bergenfield, Langer Leasing and Bergenfield Sports and Auto. He was a member of the Bergenfield Chamber of Commerce and served as a Scoutmaster in the Boy Scouts. After retiring, he worked part time for several auto dealerships in the area.

He had a great love of the outdoors, especially the water, and strived to pass that appreciation on to his children and grandchildren at his summer homes in Lavallette and Lake Carmel, N.Y.

He is survived by his children, Corliss S. Hubert and Dr. Curtis M. Langer; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

He was predeceased by his wife of 69 years, Olga.

A memorial service will be conducted at a future date.
