Francis Verdicchio, 98, Of New Milford

NEW MILFORD, N.J. – Francis “Barney” Verdicchio, 98, of New Milford, died Friday, Oct. 16.

Born and raised in New York City, he had been a resident of New Milford since 1972. He served oversees in the U.S. Army during World War II. During his service to his country, he often would entertain the troops with his comedy and appear on the Major Bowes Radio Show doing impersonations.

He was a self-employed cab driver in New York City, and owned his own medallion for more than 30 years. He was a member of the New Milford-Teaneck Elks.

He was the husband of Sebastiana “Nellie” Verdicchio for 66 years, father of Dorothy Van Slyke, Joseph Verdicchio and grandfather of one grandson.
