Dorothea M Verga, 92, Of Dumont

DUMONT, N.J. - -Dorothea M. Verga, of Dumont, died on Dec. 28. She was 92.

She was an inspiration to the hundreds of youths who have known as her as a leader in both the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts in both Jersey City and Dumont for over 50 years. She received the esteemed "Silver Beaver" award from the Boy Scouts of America. She will always be remembered as a consummate volunteer serving in the USO during WWII, assisting the Dumont Ambulance Corp, and several other charitable organizations. 

She is survived by her children, Joseph and Judith Verga, Edward and Elizabeth Verga, Isabelle Verga Driscoll, Lillian and the late Joseph Graviano, Charles and Karen Verga, Dorothy Verga, and the late James Edward Verga; grandchildren, Jeffrey and Shana Verga, Joseph and Janet Verga, Jill and Daniel Tabor, Brian Verga, Eve and Mario Valente, Nicholas Graviano, Benjamin Graviano and Ana Mendez, Nicholas, Kevin, Jack, And Julia Verga, and the late Alison Verga; great-grandchildren, Jake, Zack, Connor, Cole, Kianna, Aidan, Kateri, Joseph, Cecilia, Noah, James, Michael, and Nina; siblings, Charles and Linda Van Zandt and Michael and Carol Van Zandt. 

She was predeceased by her husband, Benjamin J Verga. 

Visiting is Tuesday, Jan. 3 from 4-8 p.m. at Riewerts Memorial Home, 187 So. Washington Ave. Bergenfield. The funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, Bergenfield at 10 a.m. Cremation will be private.
