Daniel O'Grady, 81, Longtime New Milford Resident

NEW MILFORD, N.J. -- Longtime New Milford resident Daniel C. O'Grady died Thursday, Feb. 4. He was 81.

O'Grady was a reporter for the New York Daily News for 34 years. He graduated from Iona College in New Rochelle, N.Y. and Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

He "will be remembered for his booming personality, sense of humor, generosity, and honesty that was delivered with a quick Irish wit," according to obituary information from the William G. Basralian Funeral Home

O'Grady is survived by his wife, Maureen Hanley; children Joan O'Grady and Mike Pagano, Ellen O'Connor and her husband Dan, Jaqueline O'Grady, and Danny O'Grady and his wife Liz; siblings Maureen Ollen and Michael O'Grady; grandchildren Erin, Keelin, Colleen, Shane, Brennan and Emmett; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother, Patrick O'Grady.

Visiting hours will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11 at the William G. Basralian Funeral Home, 559 Kinderkamack Road, Oradell. An 11 a.m. Mass will be conducted Friday, Feb. 12 at St. Joseph’s, 300 Elm St., Oradell; all are to meet at church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Veterans Memorial Home, 1 Veterans Dr., Paramus, NJ 07652 to the attention of the activity department.
