Prior to joining Valley, Dr. Brenner served as chief medical officer of Summit Medical Group — and more recently Summit Health Management — since 2006. In that role, he was responsible for strategic expansion, enhancement of organizational performance, patient safety and patient experience through the creation of robust population health, risk management and advocacy departments, clinical program development and advancement of clinical information technology.
Dr. Brenner, who resides in Short Hills, NJ, received his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and completed the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons/Overlook Hospital Family Medicine Internship and Residency Program. Dr. Brenner holds a Masters in Medical Management from the Carnegie Mellon University-Heinz School of Public Policy and Management and recently completed a NYU Stern Strategic Leadership
He served as a physician in the United States Air Force and earned a U.S. Air Force commendation and meritorious service medals. Dr. Brenner is a member of the Board of the National American Medical Group Association Foundation, and serves as an advisor to the Foundation for national disease management collaboratives in diabetes and congestive heart failure,and is active in fundraising. He is also a recipient of the Dorland Health National People
Award for his contributions to health care in the area of care coordination. Dr. Brenner is a national speaker on health care reform and its implications for patients and physicians and has been interviewed for local, state and regional news outlets. He is known for his presentations on producing value in health care, population health, managing physician performance, effective healthcare systems, multispecialty group practices, and the meaningful use of health information technologies.
Dr. Brenner will work with Valley’s leaders and staff to strengthen Valley Health System’s ability to deliver high-quality, value-based care across the System. He will play a leadership role in the development of Valley’s Accountable Care Organization and population health strategies, academic and clinical affiliations and growing research program, and developing physician leadership.
