New Milford came in at number 10 and Dumont at umber 24. The report identified communities with a population of more than 10,000 people in 2013 and reported complete crime data to the FBI.

"New Milford is situated in the heart of northern New Jersey. The 17,000 member community recently appointed Frank Ramaci as the new Police Chief," SafeWise said in its report. "Dedicated to continuing a legacy of working hand in hand with citizens, we expect the streets in New Milford will stay safe under Ramaci’s leadership. The last time New Milford made our list, the community reported seven violent crimes. This time, it reported just two"

"Dumont is a northern New Jersey community that offers a number of community gathering events. As a result, people who call Dumont home form close ties and care about their community," SafeWise said in its report. "Something they should all be proud of is that only 14 burglaries were reported in Dumont, according to the most recent FBI report. Considering a burglary occurs every 15 seconds in the U.S., we commend Dumont’s exceptionally low burglary rate."

SafeWise reviewed the latest FBI Crime Report statistics, comparing the number of reported violent crimes (murder, robbery, rape, and aggravated assault) and property crimes (burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson) in each city.
