BERGENFIELD, N.J. -- The Bergenfield District Alliance, in conjunction with the borough of Bergenfield, will host its inaugural “Food and Fright Festival” on Tuesday, Oct. 31 through Sunday, Nov. 5. The Halloween Day kickoff will include multiple family activities, prizes and entertainment including a Halloween parade led by the Bergenfield High School Marching Band, a costume contest and more. Families can also enjoy Trunk or Treating down South Washington, balloon art and face painting.

“Since being elected mayor, I have heard how much the community has wanted the return of a street festival," said Bergenfield Mayor, Normal Schmelz. "The Bergenfield District Alliance saw Halloween as a great opportunity to combine the numerous fall events in Bergenfield into one community festival.”

The Bergenfield Food Crawl will highlight the restaurants and businesses of Bergenfield in a promotional guide, the “Bergenfield Food Crawl Passport,” full of $5 specials. Attendees will have the opportunity to utilize any of the promotions in their passport and receive a stamp throughout the six-day event. The more stamps you collect in your guide, the more chances you have to win prizes. Click here to view the list of restaurants participating in the Food Crawl.

“The Food Crawl is a great new addition because Bergenfield has a large diversity of food establishments due to its multicultural demographic," said Schmelz. "We wanted to showcase these businesses and give our community members a chance to experience as many eateries as possible at a reduced rate. I’m positive the Food and Fright Festival will be the start of a great yearly event.”

The BDA is comprised of business property owners, business owners, residents of the borough, and borough officials. To help achieve its mission of improving the local economy, the BDA works on beautification projections, community events, marketing, public relations services and administration.
