Renowned Physician, Dr. Ira Byock, Presents 'Conversation About Mortality'

RIDGEWOOD, N.J. -- According to Dr. Ira Byock, a California-based physician, there are four distinct phrases that carry the most meaning as people go through life. At an upcoming talk sponsored by The Valley Hospital, Byock will explain these phrases and discuss how they can improve life in all of its stages.

A leading palliative care physician, author and public advocate for improving end-of-life care, Byock will discuss his acclaimed book, "The Four Things That Matter Most" at the Nov. 30 presentation. In his writings, he argues that four phrases are instrumental in promoting a fuller, more positive life: “Please forgive me,” “I forgive you,” “Thank you,” and “I love you.”

As a doctor specializing in palliative care, Byock has focused his clinical practice on relieving the pain, stress and other symptoms that can accompany a serious, chronic or incurable illness. He currently works to help patients, family members and caregivers find comfort and healing.

The free event is open to the public and will take place at West Side Presbyterian Church in Ridgewood on Thursday, Nov. 30 from 7 to 9 p.m. The event is co-sponsored by The Valley Hospital, West Side Presbyterian Church and Ridgewood Interfaith Religious Leaders. This presentation will be the second annual "Conversations About Mortality" event, held in honor of National Hospice and Palliative Care Month.
