DUMONT, N.J. -- The Dumont Shade Tree Commission is sponsoring a seminar Monday, March 7 to demonstrate how local communities and individuals can have an effect against climate change.
Dr. Tineke Thio, Ph.D. is a science and technology consultant and the founder of Princeton Climate Change, and according to a statement from the commission, will “deliver her lecture on the topic of global thinking / local action. Her lecture series is titled Building Resilience in a Warming World."
Topics include options for cutting our carbon footprints in areas such as home maintenance, transportation, food, and planting trees. Thio will discuss ways humans are adapting to rising temperatures, extreme weather and rising sea levels. These measures often have health and financial benefits as a happy side effect.
The program will be at the Dumont Senior Center, 39 Dumont Ave., at 7:30 p.m. The event is free to the community, and will include coffee and refreshments.
