The Jackson Township amusement park's Kingda Ka roller coaster will be retired, Six Flags said in a news release on Thursday, Nov. 14. The ride's closing is one of many changes for the 2025 season at the resort.
Kingda Ka opened in 2005 and gave more than 12 million rides to parkgoers.
"We understand that saying goodbye to beloved rides can be difficult, and we appreciate our guests' passion," park president Brian Bacica said. "These changes are an important part of our growth and dedication to delivering exceptional new experiences. We look forward to sharing more details next summer."
Six Flags Great Adventure plans to replace Kingda Ka with a new "multi-record-breaking launch coaster" in 2026. The mystery ride will be joined by THE FLASH: Vertical Velocity, which had its opening delayed until 2025.
The Green Lantern roller coaster, The Twister, and the Parachutes ride will also be torn down. The Sky Way gondola ride will be removed after it was permanently closed in 2023.
The plans were announced as Six Flags said it was investing $1 billion in its parks.
"With our dedication to creating unforgettable experiences, the park's multi-year expansion plans will bring major investments, including record-breaking thrill rides, revitalized family experiences, elevated dining, expanded events, and continuous enhancements across the property," Bacica said.
Six Flags Great Adventure is finishing up its 50th-anniversary season. The resort's year was highlighted by the opening of Savannah Sunset Resort & Spa, a luxury camping experience in the middle of the 350-acre Six Flags Wild Safari.
The park also opened the Splash Island family-friendly at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor New Jersey and a new Fright Fest Extreme experience.
