They offer hope and comfort to people who may feel lonely, disconnected, or have experienced some type of loss, said The Rev. Elaine Wing, pastor at Calvary United Methodist Church.
"There's no need to put a smile on your face. The worship services are so people feel they are not alone. There may be a soloist or duet. But there is no performance. Nobody has to be on. It is a quiet service to receive God's comfort."
Meaningful music, reflection, and candlelight are central to the theme, as is a fellowship afterwards.
"It will be a time for community, so people who may have come feeling a certain way, can feel they are not alone."
The service at Calvary United Methodist Church is Sunday, Dec. 18 at 7 p.m., 185 W. Madison Ave., between Cooper and Prospect Avenues, Dumont.
The service at Old North Reformed Church is Tuesday, Dec. 20 at 7 p.m., 120 Washington Ave., corner of Washington and Madison Avenues, Dumont.
