Bergenfield Council Donates Steel From Failed Project To Veterans Group

BERGENFIELD, N.J. -- The Bergenfield Council has announced that steel from an abandoned community center project has been sold to a nonprofit organization offering therapeutic riding to returning veterans suffering from lost limbs and post traumatic stress syndrome.

The sale was facilitated by the owners of the steel building, The Bergenfield Community Center Organization.

Borough Administrator Corey Gallo and The Bergenfield Department of Public Works were on site to assist with the logistics of the move.

The Council released a joint statement on the matter:

“We would have loved nothing more than to have more activity space to serve the residents of Bergenfield, but unfortunately politics and misinformation poisoned the initial project. We are pleased that the borough’s patience has been rewarded with a sale to a worthy charity.

As the borough closes this chapter, we learn from this experience and pledge to continue to work toward further improvements within our recreation program for the betterment of Bergenfield’s families and children. We would also like to thank the dedicated volunteers of Bergenfield’s recreation community that tried passionately to bring this project to the forefront and worked tirelessly to facilitate a sale when the project did not move forward.”
