10 Heat-Related Incidents Hospitalize 4 During Jersey Shore Half-Marathon Ten people suffered heat-related incidents at the 50th annual Jersey Shore half-marathon in Sandy Hook over the weekend, authorities said.  Four runners were taken to the hospital from the popular race on Sunday, Oct. 1, according to a National Park Service spokeswoman.  Six other racers refused medical attention, the spokeswoman said. Sunday was a summer-like day with temps plunging near 80 degrees.

Man Pulled From Waters Of 'Clothing Optional' Beach Dies A man died after beachgoers pulled him from the waters of a "clothing optional" destination in Monmouth County Saturday, July 29. The incident happened sometime before 12:30 p.m., at an unguarded section of Gunnison Beach in Sandy Hook, according to National Park Service spokeswoman Daphne Yun. CPR was performed, however, lifesaving measures were unsuccessful, and the man was taken to Monmouth Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, Yun said. No further details were provided. Gunnison Beach was recently named one of the best secret beaches in America.

Search Launched For Missing PA Swimmer In Delaware River National and local police agencies were searching for a 23-year-old Pennsylvania man who went missing while swimming in the Delaware River Tuesday, June 21, WFMZ reports. Christopher Schofield, of Stroudsburg, was swimming with two others in a section of the river with strong currents when he began to struggle and submerged near the Interstate 80 toll bridge around 8 p.m., the outlet says citing the National Park Service. Body Of Missing Central Jersey Teen Ty Sauer Found In National Park The body of a missing 18-year-old Monmouth County man was found Monday in Shenandoah National Park in Virginia, park officials said. A preliminary identification of remains discovered in the park was made about two miles from where Ty Sauer was last seen on April 22, according to a statement from the National Park Service. Searches found the remains on Monday, April 26 at 2:55 p.m., officials said. Sauter's body was taken to a medical examiner’s office for a positive identification and to determine the cause of death, the park service said.
