18 Families Displaced By South Jersey Apartment Fire At least 18 families were displaced by an apartment house fire in Galloway, authorities said. The fire broke out at 5:07 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29 at Apache Court, Galloway police said. Upon arrival, police officers observed a fully engulfed building containing dozens of apartments. All surrounding fire departments were notified and responded to the scene.  Once several fire departments arrived, they were able to gain control of the large fire and extinguish it.  The cause of the fire is still under investigation.  Galloway Township EMS treated numerous victims for smoke i…

Pedestrian, 74, Struck, Killed In Atlantic County A 74-year-old pedestrian from Galloway Township was killed when he was struck by a car, authorities said. Charles Winkler Jr., was walking east in the outside westbound lane of Route 30 near South Balboa Avenue in Galloway when he was hit, police said. Julianne Johnson, 55, of Hammonton, was driving west on Route 30 about 8:30 p.m. on Thursday when the collision occurred, police said. Galloway police arrived to find Johnson’s car stopped in the outside lane at the intersection of Columbus Avenue. Officers found Winkler dead in the road. South Jersey Motorcyclist, 31, Killed In Head-On Collision A 31-year-old father from Atlantic County was killed when his motorcycle collided head-on with a car in Galloway Township, authorities said. Darryl Crowder, a construction worker from Hammonton, was driving east on the White Horse Pike at about 5:40 p.m. Thursday when a motorist driving west struck the motorcycle as she tried to turn left onto South Cologne Avenue, Galloway police said. Crowder was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Trauma Unit in Atlantic City, where he died of his injuries.
