Fugitive Wanted For Trying To Kill Twin In MD Captured Near NJ/NY Border After 50-Mile Pursuit
A fugitive wanted for the attempted murder of his twin sister in Maryland was captured just short of the New York State line in New Jersey following a nearly hour-long pursuit, authorities confirmed on Monday, Dec. 4.
Reese E. Wetzel, 23, of Ellicott City, MD stabbed his sister multiple times during an argument, then stole her car and headed north, police in Edison, NJ, said.
Edison police said they received a Sirius XM alert involving the stolen white 2019 Subaru Outback at 8:13 p.m. Sunday.

DWI Off-Duty Officer Charged In Double-Fatal Somerset County Crash, Victims IDd: Prosecutor
An off-duty Edison police officer was charged with vehicular homicide in connection with one of the two double-fatal crashes that occurred in Somerset County over the weekend, authorities announced.
Amitoj Oberoi, 29, of Somerset, was charged with two counts of first-degree vehicular homicide, as well as DWI, and several motor vehicle violations, Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald said Wednesday, Aug. 30.
Oberoi is employed as an Edison police officer and was off-duty at the time of the crash, the prosecutor said.

Central Jersey Man Charged In Burglary Spree: Prosecutor
A 50-year-old man from Middlesex County has been charged with burglary, theft and criminal mischief in Somerset County, authorities said.
Gregory Q. Green, of Edison, was charged in the offenses on Oct. 12, according to Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald.
On April 28, 2021, at 9:07 a.m., Branchburg Township police responded to a business on Columbia Road for a burglary. The business owner reported that someone entered the building, ransacked the offices, and removed an undisclosed amount of cash from a desk drawer.

Four suspended police officers from Central Jersey bilked their town for no-show "extra duty" assignments, authorities said.
The Edison Police officers were charged with racketeering, bribery, theft, money laundering and witness tampering, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Chief Thomas Bryan of the Edison Police Department said on Friday, Oct. 14.
They did not say how much taxpayer money was stolen by the former officers.

Two people were killed, and two others were critically hurt, when their vehicle struck a tree in Central Jersey, authorities said.

Edison Fire Captain, 55, Dies Of Coronavirus
Edison Fire Department Capt. Richard P. Campbell, 55, died of coronavirus complications, authorities said.
Campbell, known as “RP,” was a 28-year veteran of the fire department and was working until he became sick, the Edison Division of Fire said in a statement. His last call was fighting an apartment complex fire.
"We are truly saddened that one of ours has passed from this virus. RP was a dedicated firefighter, a tremendous family man, and a great friend,” Edison Fire Chief Brian Latham and Deputy Chief Andrew Toth said in a joint statement.

Police: Agitated Man Kicks, Spits, Shouts 'Now You Have Coronavirus' At Edison Officers
An emotionally disturbed man coughed on, spit at and kicked police officers, shouting, "I have the coronavirus. I want somebody to come touch me," authorities in Edison said.
The man's parents called police around 11 p.m. Wednesday saying that he was "out of control," the department wrote in a Facebook post.
Responding officers said they tried to calm him down, but the man fought with them at the house and then again at headquarters.
