Covid-19: These South Jersey Counties Have Highest Coronavirus Rates Three counties in South Jersey rank among the top 12 counties statewide in confirmed coronavirus cases, according to New Jersey Health Department statistics. As of Tuesday, Jan. 2, Camden County ranked sixth statewide. Burlington County ranked 10th and Mercer County ranked 12th. There were 177,428 confirmed cases of COVID-19 statewide on Tuesday, according to the state's COVID Dashboard. NEW Rules: CDC Now Says Exposed Healthy People 'Don’t Necessarily' Need COVID Test Healthy people who’ve been exposed to COVID-19 “do not necessarily need a test” if they don’t have symptoms, the Centers for Disease Control said this week, reversing a previous recommendation. The CDC previously urged testing for anyone who'd come into close contact with an infected COVID patient, whether or not they themselves had symptoms. The centers now says that most healthy people should be tested if they develop symptoms following an exposure – among them, fever, cough or shortness of breath -- but not necessarily if they don't. Phil Murphy said. New Jersey saw an additional 1,621 new positive coronavirus cases overnight Sunday bringing the statewide total to 128,269.
