Oops? Atlantic City Police Officer Accidentally Spends Deposited $35K, Prosecutors Say

An Atlantic City police officer is accused of stealing tens of thousands of dollars accidentally deposited in his bank account, authorities said.

LaQuay DuBose, 37, of Atlantic City, was charged with third-degree theft on Tuesday, Jan. 16, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office announced on Friday, Jan. 19. Bank employees mistakenly deposited a $100,000 check into DuBose's checking account on Tuesday, Mar. 21, 2023.

Prosecutors said DuBose spent more than $35,000 before the mistake was caught by the bank on Monday, Mar. 27, 2023. The bank withdrew the $100,000 and closed DuBose's account, which was overdrawn by $35,907.15.
