Cash App's parent company will have to pay $175 million for poorly protecting its users from fraud and financial crimes on the payment platform, officials said. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau ordered Block to refund up to $120 million to users harmed by fraud, the federal agency said in a news release on Thursday, Jan. 16. Maryland Woman Who Filmed Sexual Abuse Of Minors For Cash Sentenced For Exploitation: Feds
A Maryland woman has been sentenced to decades in prison for sexually exploiting a child, federal authorities announced on Tuesday. Hagerstown native Ashley Marie Tibbs, 34, has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison, followed by a lifetime of supervised release for sexually abusing two children. According to her guilty plea, Tibbs sexually abused two minors who were between the ages of 2 and 5, which she filmed, and sent to John Balch in exchange for cash. A former correctional officer in Maryland is the latest to face prison time for his role in a racketeering conspiracy to smuggle contraband into an area prison, authorities announced. Andre “2 Chainz” Davis, 37, of Baltimore, was convicted by a federal jury for a wide-ranging racketeering conspiracy at the Chesapeake Detention Facility in Baltimore following a seven-day trial. Baltimore police are investigating a string of robberies involving suspects using Ride Share apps to carjack drivers, authorities say.
