A Maryland State Police helicopter was required to rescue a hiker who was injured after slipping and falling from the top of a cliff onto the top of a train tunnel in Carroll County. Shortly after 3 p.m. on Friday afternoon, first responders were called to the area of Gaither Road and Railroad Avenue in Sykesville, where there was an injured hiker who fell approximately 20 feet down an embankment while walking in a wooded area. First responders in Maryland came to the rescue of a group of swimmers who found themselves in a perilous position on Sunday afternoon, officials say. Ten people were removed from the Potomac River by crews in Montgomery County and Fairfax County after they were stranded on an island and their kayak went rogue and floated downstream. Some lanes were closed following a crash in Montgomery County that left a vehicle on its side and two people trapped inside on Wednesday afternoon. In the wake of the home explosion that claimed the lives of two in Bel Air, first responders were called on Tuesday morning to investigate a reported motorcycle crash that send a biker down an embankment.
