Prosecutors Drop Charges Against Adnan Syed After Prison Release
Prosecutors have dropped charges against 41-year-old Adnan Syed after a judge vacated his sentence for the 1999 killing of Hae Min Lee after it was ruled that the state violated a legal obligation to provide critical evidence that could have helped Syed's defense, reports WTOP. Maryland County To Enforce Teen Curfew Amid Deadly Stretch Of Murders, Violence
Prince George’s County will begin to start strictly enforcing a teen curfew next weekend following the most violent month for the county in decades, officials say. The curfew aims to keep kids off the streets at night after August alone saw 24 murders investigated by police, states Prince George's County Executive Angela Alsobrooks. In addition to the murders, the number of juvenile arrests has nearly doubled since last year, with 430 arrests so far in 2022. Monumental Sports and Entertainment recently bought its partner, NBC Sports Washington, according to WTOP. Almost five million households of sports fans can currently access NBC Sports Washington on 25 cable television providers in the DMV area, WTOP said. Before buying NBC Sports Washington, Monumental Sports and Entertainment already owned the Wizards, Capitals, Mystics and Capital One Arena, as well as 33% of NBC Sports Washington, the website said. Police have released the identity of the teen who died while swimming in the Potomac River on August 5. Dog Trapped, 10 Displaced After Vacant DC Home Catches Fire: Reports
A two alarm fire in a vacant D.C. home displaced 10 people and left a dog trapped, WTOP reported. On August 1 at around 9:30 p.m., fire officials responded to the 2200 block of Douglas Street to find a heavy fire engulfing a vacant three-story home, according to initial reports. Firefighters rescued a caged dog in the back of the house and 10 residents nearby were displaced to ensure their safety from a potential collapse of the burning house, WTOP said. DC Firefighter Arrested In Armed Fairfax County Robbery: Report
Fairfax County Police arrested a D.C. firefighter after he robbed someone at gunpoint back in May, WTOP reports. Christopher Potts, 27, was charged with robbery and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony on July 8, the outlet said. Potts knew the victim and has been arrested once before. Sinkhole Repairs On I-270 Expected To Take Longer Than Originally Thought
The massive sinkhole that took over the southbound lanes of a Maryland Highway is going to close the interstate for much longer than expected, reports WTOP. Recent and expected weather is causing delays in plans to repair the 30 foot sinkhole on I-270 in Gaithersburg, the outlet reports. Two lanes were shut down on the highway to repair the damage, which is now expected to hopefully reopen by July 4th weekend.
