Richard Wilson Jr., 86, had been missing since Jan. 25, when he walked away from his Waldorf home and never returned.

He was reported missing that evening, triggering a widespread search involving helicopters, boats, dive teams, K-9 units, and multiple law enforcement agencies.

On Thursday, March 27, Prince George’s County Police notified Charles County detectives that Wilson’s body had been found in the water near Mariner Drive in Fort Washington, about five miles from the last confirmed sighting of him on Swan Creek Road.

“Our hearts go out to Mr. Wilson’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” said Charles County Sheriff Troy Berry.

In the weeks following his disappearance, investigators had combed the Fort Washington area based on cell phone data and surveillance footage.

The search expanded with the help of Maryland State Police, Fairfax County Police, and certified volunteer K-9 search teams, among others.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine the official cause of death. The investigation is ongoing, led by Detective Johnson.
