Investigators Determine Origin Of Devastating Fire That Destroyed Maryland Church The blaze that burned down a Maryland church on Thursday afternoon and caused $1.5 million in damage started in the steeple before rapidly spreading, according to the Maryland Fire Marshal. Firefighters from multiple agencies were called shortly after 3 p.m. on Aug. 1 to the Clearfield Bible Church in Westminster, where there was a reported fire that was discovered by an employee inside the building who was working in a basement office and was able to escape safely.
