Springfield resident Monica Wilson was heading north at around 5 p.m. on Oct. 23 in the 500 block of Largo Center Drive when she was struck by a second driver who was heading south and crossed into the northbound lanes.

She suffered critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after the crash, police say. The second driver was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to witnesses, two passengers in the second vehicle fled on foot and ran from the scene. It is unclear what caused the driver to lose control and cause the crash, which remains under investigation on Thursday.
