Another Potomac Sewage Spill Sends E. Coli Through The Roof, Officials Warn Just days after a massive sewage overflow sent bacteria levels soaring along the Potomac River, DC Water says another overflow happened — but this one never reached the river. A limited overflow was reported at the collapse site earlier this week, when two bypass pumps clogged with non-disposable wipes were taken out of service for cleaning, according to DC Water. During a period of high flow, wastewater temporarily exceeded pumping capacity, officials said. The overflow was estimated at less than 5,000 gallons.
