Jaheim Tibbs died in his sleep with his favorite blanket late last week, his mom Felicia Burns Tibbs said on social media. A cause of death was not immediately known.
More than $9,900 had been raised for the Tibbs family on a GoFundMe as of Sunday, Oct. 16.
Jaheim's former teacher Kelly Brown shared the fundraiser on her Facebook page, remembering him for his kindness.
"I am devastated to lose Jaheim," she writes. "The sweetest, kindest, best kid and big brother. "We loved talking about his doggies after class. His smile was contagious, and his after school hugs were the best."
