A Newburg man is behind bars after allegedly pointing a gun at a loaded school bus full of students near Waverly Place earlier this fall, according to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office. Richard William Ellis, 47, is facing more than a dozen charges following a scary incident that led to a lengthy investigation, and ultimately his arrest. The Maryland man who burned down a home that resulted in the death of his girlfriend and her toddler daughter may spend the rest of his life in prison, the Charles County State's Attorney's Office announced. The Charles County State’s Attorney’s Office (SAO) is bringing back its annual “Drive Sober” initiative for the fourth year, aiming to keep impaired drivers off the roads during one of the deadliest times of the year. Running from Nov. 25, 2024, to Jan. 1, 2025, the program offers holiday revelers an extra incentive to avoid drinking and driving: free or discounted Uber rides.
