The rising cost of a trip to the hair salon or barber takes a bigger bite out of household budgets in some Northeast states than others, according to a new study. WalletHub released its 2026 list of States Where People Spend the Most & Least on Hair Care on Wednesday, Aug. 19. The personal finance website compared the cost of men's barbershop haircuts and women's beauty salon visits in all 50 states against each state's median household income. A new Gourmet Gift Baskets analysis ranks all 50 states and Washington, DC, by their ability to attract residents.
