Gusty Winds, Possible Snow Heading Toward Maryland, Virginia, Forecasters Caution

Forecasters are cautioning that some wild weather may be moving through the DMV region through the weekend as the area braces for possible snow storms in parts of the area.

A "Special Weather Statement" was issued by the National Weather Service advising that wind gusts possibly approaching 50 mph may be on the way on Wednesday night, bringing with it a strong cold front and possibly a taste of winter weather in the mountains.

The worst of the weather is expected between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Nov. 20. 

"The strong winds will be capable of blowing around unsecured objects and isolated instances of wind damage are possible as well," AccuWeather forecasters said. "Winds will gradually diminish overnight."

A Winter Storm Warning was also issued along and west of the Alleghenies for heavy snow expected Thursday through Saturday morning, with some areas set to see more than a foot of snow.

"The front will deliver increased rain chances (and) gusty winds later this evening into tonight," according to the National Weather Service. "Upper level low pressure will follow Thursday (through) Saturday bringing a prolonged period of chilly (temperatures), (mountain) snow, (and) windy conditions.
