Freddy “Boom Boom” Cannon died Friday, July 17, at a hospice facility in Oxnard, California, after a brief bout with cancer, his representative told Variety. He was 89.
Cannon powered some of the late 1950s and early 1960s’ most memorable songs, including “Tallahassee Lassie,” “Way Down Yonder in New Orleans,” and “Palisades Park.”

A rising 26-year-old professional boxer was killed in a road rage crash in Texas on Saturday, July 18, authorities said.
Charles Medina, 31, allegedly passed two bicyclists, including 26-year-old Hannah Rapp, on FM 159 in Brazos County just before 10 a.m. Saturday, July 18, according to the Brazos County Sheriff's Office.
