Woman Pulled From Maryland Townhouse Fire Dies: Officials

A devastating townhouse fire in Oxon Hill claimed the life of an elderly woman Tuesday night, prompting fire officials to return to the area to provide free smoke alarms and fire safety education.

Prince George’s County Fire and Rescue crews responded to the 6100 block of Brandyhall Court shortly before 7 p.m. on Jan. 28 after receiving reports of a fire. 

Upon arrival, officials say crews found flames showing from the second floor of a three-story, middle-unit townhouse.

Firefighters quickly worked to extinguish the blaze, but an 84-year-old woman was found with critical injuries inside.

Officials later confirmed that the victim, a woman who lived in the townhouse died from her injuries. Fire investigators remain on-site working to determine the cause of the fire.

Following the fatal incident, Prince George’s County Fire and Rescue returned to the neighborhood at to distribute free smoke alarms and provide fire safety education to residents.

No other homes were impacted by the fire, officials said. Details about the victim have not been released pending an autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore.
