Officer Indicted For Deadly, Unauthorized High-Speed Pursuit In Maryland: AG
A Maryland police officer is facing serious criminal charges after allegedly causing a fatal crash during an unauthorized high-speed pursuit, then fleeing the scene without reporting it, according to state prosecutors.
On Wednesday, April 2, Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown announced the indictment of Officer Alexander Rodriguez, 30, of the Anne Arundel County Police Department, in connection to the August 2024 death of 21-year-old Joshua VanderZiel in Howard County.
At the time of his death, Vanderziel was a Russian linguist for the US Navy, according to Brown.

Officers Accused Of Misconduct Following Deadly Police Pursuit: Maryland AG
Two Anne Arundel County police officers have been indicted for allegedly concealing their involvement in a high-speed pursuit that ended in a fatal crash last year, Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown announced Monday.
Officer Eddie Vasquez, 29, and Cpl. Kieran Schnell, 27, face charges of misconduct in office in connection with the Dec. 7, 2023, incident, according to a press release issued on Dec. 9 announcing that Vasquez has been charged with one count of misconduct, while Schnell faces two counts.
