A Cecil County family came home to an unwanted surprise over the weekend when flames from an unattended burn barrel spread from a neighbor's backyard into theirs, according to the Office of the Maryland Fire Marshal. Shortly before 3 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20, first responders from the North East Fire Company were called to the 100 block of Superior Court, when a passerby reported a fire in the area. Improperly Discarded Ashes Spark Maryland House Blaze, Fire Marshal Says
Improperly discarded ashes from a bonfire during the unseasonably warm start to fall led to a house fire in Harford County, the Maryland Fire Marshal is cautioning. Nearly two dozen firefighters from the Bel Air Fire Department were called at around 11:15 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5 to the 1600 block of Junius Court when a neighbor reported that the exterior of a home was on fire. Child Accidentally Sets Maryland Shed Ablaze, Damages Home: Fire Marshal
A child who accidentally set a fire inside a Cecil County shed caused thousands of dollars in damage to his family's home, officials say. Late in the afternoon on Friday, Aug. 16, crews from the Singerly Fire Company responded to a home on Hollingsworth Manor in Elkton, where a homeowner reported that their tarp-covered shed was on fire. More than two dozen firefighters were able to quickly knock down the flames and get the fire under control, but not before it caused approximately $25,000 in damage.
