An alert was issued by the agency advising that officers will be monitoring registered sex offenders who are prohibited from having contact with children on Thursday, when they head out to trick-or-treat.
According to the Baltimore County Police Department, a no-contact order is currently in effect for approximately 10 percent of offenders that bars them from handing out candy to children on the holiday.
"Officers, both in marked vehicles and undercover cars, will be keeping an eye on the homes of registered sex offenders identified by the Division of Parole and Probation as having no-contact restrictions," officials said.
"This monitoring will be conducted in conjunction with Parole and Probation agents."
The department noted that registered sex offenders who are not on such an order are not prohibited from giving out candy to kids.
Parents looking to evaluate which houses to avoid can do so by checking the US Department of Justice's website.
Anyone who believes that a registered sex offender with a no-contact order who is handing out candy to children has been asked to contact the department's Sex Offender Registration team by calling (410) 887-7740.
