Mikey McCullough, a librarian from Baltimore, was the big winner on Tuesday's episode with $18,200, but it was Texas teacher Chris Burge ($3,000) who made headlines, revealing an ongoing cancer battle live on the show.
McCullough, a data curator at the National Agricultural Library in Beltsville, topped Burge and Paul Clauson ($2,000), a tax analyst from Michigan.
She moves on to test her knowledge on Wednesday, Nov. 20 against a Los Angeles writer and software engineer from Seattle.
It all came down to Final Jeopardy, when McCullough was sitting pretty - but not safe - at $20,200, Clauson at a manageable $11,000 and Burge out of contention barring a miracle at $1,600.
The final clue?
The “Sports & The City” clue was, “At 800 West Main & 700 Central in this city are a company & a venue both involved in Triple Crowns.”
Ironically, Burge was the only one to correctly answer "Louisville," while Clauson bet it all and lost, leaving McCullough, who played it safe and bet $2,000 - which would have given her the knockout blow if she got it correct - for the final tally of $18,200.
The returning champion will look to continue her streak at 7 p.m. on Wednesday on ABC.
