An unexpected tragedy struck a family in Carroll County, with the community now rallying for a 34-year-old expectant mother who died, along with her unborn child.
Westminster resident Lauryn Fazenbaker Diehl, 34, and their unborn baby girl, Rowen, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 22 at Carroll Hospital Center, leaving behind her husband and two young children.
A GoFundMe for the family had raised more than $56,000 as of press time.
A graduate of the Art Institute of York, Lauryn was being remembered in her obituary as a "light to all those around her."

A 77-year-old woman accused of beating her husband dead with a cane died while awaiting trial, authorities announced.
Gail D’Anthony died on May 13, 2024, while in the custody of the Maryland Department of Health, the Carroll County State’s Attorney’s Office said in a news release on Friday, May 17.
D’Anthony was being held in custody by MDH because it was determined she was not competent to be tried on charges that she'd beaten her husband, John D’ Anthony III, 72, to death with a cane in March 2023. A competency hearing was scheduled for July 9, 2024.

Carroll County mom Jennifer Kassakatis Geilfuss died at home on Thursday, Feb. 1, according to her obituary on the Zumbrun Funeral Home website. She was 44 years old.
Jennifer was born in Texas but graduated from Liberty High School in Eldersburg, then settled in Westminster, her obituary says.
She considered being a mother to her son, Cody, her "most important and precious role," her obituary reads.

A loaded gun, cocaine, cash and drug paraphernalia were seized from a Pennsylvania man and his passenger in a Carroll County stop over the weekend, police said.
A Carroll County sheriff's deputy was patrolling along Baltimore Boulevard in Westminster, when he spotted a blue Ford Mustang speeding past vehicles in the right turn lane around 3:50 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, the county sheriff's office said.
