Classes Canceled At Bowie State To Address 'Mental Well-Being' Of Students Following Shooting Classes have been canceled for the rest of the week at Bowie State University as the community continues to reel from a Homecoming Weekend shooting. As of noon on Tuesday, Oct. 10, school officials say that all classes have been canceled for the remainder of the week "to allow additional time for our students, faculty, and staff to address mental distress."  Officials said that on Tuesday afternoon, they were to meet with student leaders to discuss what steps should be taken next following the shooting that left at least two people with gunshot wounds during a busy event. Two Hurt In Homecoming Weekend Shooting At Bowie State University: Police Local and state police are investigating a shooting at Bowie State University that left two people with gunshot wounds on Homecoming Weekend, authorities announced. At around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday night, troopers from the Maryland State Police College Park Barrack were called to assist Bowie State University with security during celebratory events, when gunshots rang out near the school's Center for Business and Graduate Studies building.
