More than 50 firefighters from the Salisbury Fire Department responded to the Island Club Apartments on Sharen Drive in Salisbury early on Monday morning, where there was reports of a blaze that broke out in the eight-unit building.
It took more than an hour to get the two-alarm blaze under control when it was discovered by occupants inside, according to the Maryland Fire Marshal, and no injuries were reported.
Officials made note that there was not a fire alarm or sprinkler present, though smoke alarms were activated. It caused an estimated $800,000 worth of damage.
The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation as of Tuesday, March 19. Seven families who were displaced are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
